This document details the search strategies used to collect the literature for this systematic review. The following ten databases were searched: Ovid Medline ALL; Ovid Embase Classic+Embase; Ovid Global Health; Ovid Econlit: Ovid APA PsycInfo; EBSCO GreenFILE; EBSCO Africa-Wide Information; Web of Science Core Collection; Web of Science SciELO; Global Index Medicus. The searches used for all ten databases are supplied. The search includes textwords and subject headings for the following concepts: (1) rural areas, including farms or smallholdings, (2) Tree-based interventions, (3) Health or socio-economic benefits, (4) Low and middle-income countries, as defined by the World Bank, and (5) Quantitative study designs.
