Data for: "Study on Health seeking behaviour and determinants of undiagnosed hypertension in poor households in the Philippines, part of the RESPOND study (SHARP-RESPOND)"
The SHARP-RESPOND study aimed to describe the characteristics and health-seeking behaviours of individuals with undiagnosed hypertension in low-income households in the Philippines and identify the factors influencing undiagnosed hypertension. The analysis is based on observations from 516 people with hypertension from low-income households in the Philippines as part of the RESPOND study. A survey collected the characteristics of participants with undiagnosed hypertension, which were compared to those with diagnosed hypertension to identify determinants of undiagnosed cases. A follow-up survey one year later gathered data on whether undiagnosed participants had subsequently received a formal diagnosis.
Additional Information
The RESPOND study dataset is covered by ethical and consent conditions that limit access. It may be made available to researchers in the scientific and medical community for non-commercial use, subject to the signing of a Data Transfer Agreement.

Description of data capture | A questionnaire using validated tools was administered at participants’ homes at baseline and follow up, collecting socio-demographic data, general health and hypertension history and care-seeking behaviour, knowledge of hypertension, and blood pressure. Individuals without a prior diagnosis of hypertension but with blood pressure readings >140/90 mmHg were classified as having undiagnosed hypertension, and during the follow-up interview one year later information was gathered on whether a formal hypertension diagnosis was received. |
