The Functional Needs Assessment Tool (FNAT) is a survey method for estimating the prevalence of functional difficulties/impairment and the need for services and assistive products in the following domains: vision, hearing, mobility, communication, cognition self-care and mental health. It uses both self-reported and clinical assessments with data collection through a bespoke tablet-based mobile application and web-based platform.
This new tool was developed between 2018-2023. In 2023 FNAT was pilot tested in ages 2+ and underwent the first field-test in ages 40+ in Kalungu district, Uganda.
