Woodsmith Project Interview material
Resources produced as part of a formative study examining health and wellbeing priorities in communities affected by Anglo American mining operations, with a particular focus on the Woodsmith Project, a polyhalite fertiliser mine in North-East England. The collection includes a record sheet used to conduct key informant interviews and interview summaries from the record sheets of interviews undertaken in the coastal and rural localities of Scarborough, Redcar and Cleveland. Due to the reasonable risk of participant re-identification, individual record sheets have not been shared. The study was conducted by the Sustainable Development Goals Health and Wellbeing research consortium (SDG-HaW), an independent academic group established by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) in 2019 with funding from the Anglo American Charitable Foundation. The research forms part of Anglo American's Sustainable Mining Plan, launched in 2018, which commits the company to supporting progress towards locally prioritised Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3) health and wellbeing targets in communities influenced by its global mining operations. Following Anglo American's purchase of the Woodsmith Project in 2020, the project's defined area of influence comprises the boroughs of Scarborough, Redcar and Cleveland, and the North York Moors National Park.
Additional Information
The anonymous interview summaries in this dataset underpin the analysis presented in the study report. Data may be requested to (1) verify the research conducted by the study team and/or (2) inform interventions to improve the health and wellbeing of the host communities covered by the study. Broader use in further research is not permitted, due to conditions in the study ethical approvals and participant consent. Access is subject to completion of a data request form and signing of a light-touch data sharing agreement.
