The main data include respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) concentration measured by quantitative PCR from nasopharyngeal swab samples collected from children and adults during a longitudinal study of viral transmission among households in rural Kenya. The parent study has been described elsewhere, but in brief, swabs were collected twice weekly from all members of 47 households in Kilifi County, Kenya during the RSV season from December 2009 until June 2010. Information on viral quantity along with participant demographics such as age were used in an analysis to determine factors influencing transmission. In addition, there is data on the results of RSV antigen testing conducted at the Kilifi County Hospital during the same time period as the household study. These data are for children <5 years of age
