A questionnaire using validated tools was administered at participants’ homes at baseline and follow up, collecting socio-demographic data, general health and hypertension history and care-seeking behaviour, knowledge of hypertension, and blood pressure. Individuals without a prior diagnosis of hypertension but with blood pressure readings >140/90 mmHg were classified as having undiagnosed hypertension, and during the follow-up interview one year later information was gathered on whether a formal hypertension diagnosis was received.
