Participants were identified through the antenatal clinic and the Health and Demographic Surveillance System. See study protocol and results paper for more detail on recruitment and study procedures. Consented participants were observed in their usual daily activity every 2 months until birth. On the day of observation baseline anthropometric, maternal and fetal physiology measurements were taken. They were then fitted with a wearable device to, and proceeded to conduct their usual manual/farming tasks for the day. Hourly climate exposures were recorded. Maternal and fetal physiology was measured at mid- and end-point of the working shift. Pre- and post- bloods and urine were also collected for analysis. Birth outcome data was collected from antenatal cards or a visit within 72 hours of delivery.
