User Guide for: Community based distribution of oral HIV self-testing kits in Zambia: a cluster-randomised trial nested in four HPTN 071 (PopART) intervention communities

Data Description

Data collected during a HIV self-testing study nested within four intervention communities in the HPTN 071 (PopART) trial. The data are aggregated by community ID, whether geographical zones (the clusters for the HIV self-testing trial) within the community were in the HIV self-testing intervention, sex, age group, prior residence in the community and how individuals learnt their HIV status. Through aggregation, the data have been de-identified. Community names have also been changed to a number.

Data Collection Methods

Data were captured on an electronic data capture device by lay counsellor (called Community HIV care providers (CHiPs)) who conducted door-to-door household visits to offer the PopART package of interventions.

Data Analysis and Preparation

Data were aggregated as described above to anonymise the data.

Geographic regions

Data were collected in four urban communities in two northern provinces of Zambia

Key dates

Outcomes were measured from households that were first visited, and individuals first enumerated as a household member, between February 1 and April 30, 2017.

3ie_hivst_aggregate_data The data includes the primary outcome variable knows_hiv_status, and secondary outcome variables accepted testing and participated. There are “derived” variables in the data, by “derived” we mean variables that have been developed based on the values of original variables, and mostly using information from >1 original variable.
