Persistent identifier

Description

An anonymised data set of 654 fisherfolk living on the shores of Lake Victoria who were enrolled in an open cohort vaccine preparedness study in Masaka Uganda. They visited the study clinic quarterly to have HIV counselling and testing for a period of two years. At baseline, socio-demographic and HIV risk behaviour data was collected. During follow-up data HIV risk behaviour data was collected every 6 months. Volunteers who did not return for two consecutive visits and those who seroconverted were discontinued from the study.

Data collection methods

Data was captured using paper-based interviewer administered questionnaires. This was then entered into a Microsoft Access database. Using preset data cleaning checks it was cleaned routinely throughout the study period. It was then transferred to Stata 14.0 (Stata Corp, College Station, TX, USA) for analysis.

Geographic regions

Masaka district in Uganda.

Key dates

Data collection took place between 6 Jan 2012- 6-Jan 2015.

Quality controls

The study clinic team performed initial data checks on the completed volunteer consents and data collection tools and all queries generated were resolved in real time. The data entered in Microsoft Access was subject to routine checks using a set of pre-determined query checks for consistency and logic. All queries generated were returned to the clinic team and resolved.
