Central Province Health Facility Census dataset, 2016
This dataset contains information related to health facilities’ infrastructure, staffing, equipment, supplies, and capacity to perform various clinical functions related to reproductive and maternal health service provision. The study was conducted in Central Province, Zambia and its primary aim was to assess facilities’ capacity to provide termination of pregnancy services.
We conducted a health facility census at 193 of 217 (89%) public and private facilities in the study province. Data were collected on a tablet-based structured questionnaire using the Open Data Kit (ODK) platform and exported to Stata for analysis.
All districts in Central Province, Zambia
Data collection was conducted from March to May 2016.
Interviewers participated in a one week training and pilot test prior to data collection. Data were collected on tablets, which allowed for monitoring of fieldwork and timely corrections to the instrument as needed.
Health facilities
Information that may lead to the identification of health facilities in the study have been removed. This includes survey date, district, facility name, respondent name, and GPS coordinates. The facilityID variable is random and uniquely identifies facilities.
Ethics approvals were obtained from the institutional review boards at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of Zambia, and Population Council. As this was a health facility assessment, we received approval from the Ministry of Health to conduct the study and no consent forms were used.
