Data extraction results for a scoping review on AMR in food crops – User Guide

Persistent identifier

10.17037/DATA.00003087

Description

Data extracted from published peer-reviewed and grey literature that summarise antimicrobial sensitivity testing data and sensitivity results.

Data collection methods

Data extraction from peer-reviewed or grey literature published online obtained through bibliographic search methods. A data extraction template in Microsoft Excel was developed with input from members of the advisory group. Studies underwent data extraction by a single person, this data was validated using a cross-over method to identify missed information or disagreements, which were subsequently resolved by consensus or a third person. Data points include study characteristics, study methods and samples, antimicrobial susceptibility test results and antimicrobial resistance genes that have been reported by authors relevant to the food crop value chain. Data extraction results are stratified within the table initially by sample type, then by microbial species, and finally by (phenotypic) antimicrobial sensitivity results.

Data analysis and preparation

Not applicable.

Geographic regions

There were no geographic limits for literature that was reviewed.

Key dates

Quality controls

Data extracted was reviewed by a second person to check results extracted from studies.

Population

Data extraction focused on crop and microbial characteristics from the studies. A small number of studies tested de-identified human biological samples (such as urine or faeces) to describe microbial presence and antimicrobial sensitivity as a proxy for exposure to food crops through consumption; data extracted from these studies included microbial and AMR characteristics only.

Privacy

All data were either non-human results (from food crops) or results from de-identified human biological samples in previously published peer-reviewed or online (grey) literature.

Ethics

No ethics approval required as all primary data had been previously published.
