Statins are one of the most commonly prescribed drugs in the United Kingdom. There is strong evidence that they are effective in safely reducing heart disease. However, there is some doubt about whether statins cause muscle pain, stiffness or weakness. The StatinWISE study sought to understand the effect of statins on muscle symptoms. The study recruited 200 volunteers from across England and Wales who had either recently stopped taking statins due to muscle symptoms, or were considering stopping due to muscle symptoms.
This collection contains four datasets that contain demographic, patient flow, primary VAS and secondary questionnaire data, as well as a STATA Do script that may be used to recruit the analysis. These datasets are made available via controlled access, subject to applicants providing proof of ethical approval for their proposed research.
